If you are experiencing serious financial hardship, and are really and truly unable to afford tuition at the SoMSS... but you feel strongly called to join the SoMSS Curriculum and/or the SoMSS Community, here’s how the “Scholarship Program for Those Experiencing Financial Hardship” works:

This isn’t a free ride exactly. It’s more of an “energy exchange”. But instead of exchanging money for your enrollment, you can instead exchange referrals.

If you refer at least 2 students who are able to pay tuition,
you will receive either a half or full scholarship.

Please apply for this scholarship only if you truly cannot afford the tuition. Please do not use this option in order to just save money. Even if you have to stretch to pay this tuition, please stretch. Even if you have to make some sacrifices, please make some sacrifices. This scholarship is intended for those who are going through very difficult times, who are unemployed, or living on a small fixed budget, and truly cannot afford the tuition, but would really benefit from attending SoMSS.

Detail #1 – Maintaining Your Scholarship

Your full scholarship will remain as long as these 2 referred students and/or community members remain enrolled and in good standing. If one of the referrals drops out or fails to pay tuition, you will have 30 days to refer another paying student.

If you end up referring 3 paying students, but 1 of them drops out, your scholarship will remain unaffected. If you end up referring 4 students, but 2 of them drop out, your scholarship will remain unaffected.

Detail #2 – Community or Curriculum?

Membership for just the SoMSS Community costs less than the tuition for SoMSS Curriculum + Community. If both of your referrals are enrolled in the SoMSS Community, your scholarship will only apply to the SoMSS Community.

If both your referrals are enrolled in the SoMSS Curriculum + Community, your scholarship will apply to the SoMSS Curriculum + Community also.

However, if one of your referrals enrolls in the SoMSS Curriculum + Community, and another enrolls in just the SoMSS Community, you still qualify for a half scholarship to the SoMSS Curriculum + Community or a full scholarship for the SoMSS Community.

How to Apply:

When your 2 referrals enroll in the school and/or join the community, they need to indicate at their checkout that you referred them. So make sure that your referrals enter your email address when they enroll (there is a dedicated box in the checkout for this information).
